Zulu Descriptions

This article was written by Monkonspd(scr), a regular member of our community since 19 April 2006.

The author would like to thank PO_Berserker for giving me an extensive list on the units in NOTD Aftermath. His list will help me to complete this article, and make sure I haven't missed anything. Due to the fact that there are a large number of units in the game, it is possible that I have missed some, when going through this article either inform me via post or PM if I have missed any units.

                                         Classified

Part One

Test Subject: The first created "zombie". The test subject has no attack, and a high resistance to projectiles. It is beleived that the test subject still contains it's former thought process, yet is recognized by the undead as one of them. Several attempts at contact with the once human creature have all met in failure. Wether this is because it refuses to speak, or because it no longer understands human dialect. Further tests on the subject have been halted due to the large amount of undead we have encountered around the test subject.

Zombie: This shuffling corpse moves at a normal human walk rate, if you can call it's undead lurch that. Speed of this zulu indicates that it has started to decay, but did not die in the earliest of outbreaks. Can be taken down with a few well placed shots.

Ghoul: This undead abomination is usually comprised of a severly decayed and often mutilated body. This paticular being was ravaged so badly after death, that it can only shuffle on all four's, and barely resembles that of a human. Entrails usually hang on the ground, due to the fact that they have been gutted by the undead hordes. Can be taken down with one well placed headshot.

High Speed Zombie: This Zulu, unlike it's more decayed cousin, has only recently been killed. Instead of a lurching gait, this one will run towards you until a bullet puts it back into the grave. The high amount of speed this creature can achieve is mostly due to the part that it has only been recently killed. It's muscles have not yet started to decay, giving it the ability to catch an unsuspecting civilian, and even a highly organized military unit unaware. Radiation from the infection also mutated said units leg muscles, enabling it to reach such abnormal speeds.

High HP Zombie: This zulu can take an extreme amount of punishment before it's inhuman form can finally be brought down. Due to the high amount of damage this zulu can take, it can often draw the fire away from the main body of the lesser zombies, enabling them to get up close and dealing a fatal blow. The reason that this zombie can withstand so much and keep on coming is currently unknown, but there is a working theory that this zombie contained a DNA fragment that was mutated by the Infection. Giving it a stronger then steel like carapace. It is best to concentrate fire or use long range explosives to deal with this deadly adversary.

Female Zombie: The women we once knew, loved, and cherished have been mutated into horrible undead by the Infection. Their grief can be heard by the wails emitted at their time of demise. The Infection has mutated their stomach lining, turning it into a highly corrosive acid. They "vomit" their innards onto the victim. Causing intense an intense burning pain that eats away at the skin of the victim. Best to use the range of your weapons to put this zulu into it's eternal rest, rather then using your knife.

Immortal: This zulu is one of the most stubborn undead we have encountered. For a reason we cannot yet discern, even after being torn apart by bullets, or mutilated by heavy ordnance, this zombie refuses to stay down and die. It will get back up and keep coming several or more times before it's body or cortex is so heavily damaged it can no longer rise to threaten it's prey. These groups of units are usually found in packs. It's best not to stand on the bodies of these units, even though they look dead, they can just as easily get back up and tear out your throat before you even know what happened. It's just best to stand back and shoot it until this stubborn son of a bitch decides it should stay down.

Chordata: The Chordata is in all respects, the "little brother" of the flesh composite. This hulking undead is a quivering mass of flesh that has a tendency to group up with other futties. This undead has a relatively high amount of hp compared to the other basic undead units. It's best to just stand back from these foul creatures and use shotguns, explosives, or concentrated fire to take it down.

Unknown zombie: Nicknamed "ghost" by our forces, this zombie usually shifts into an alternate reality when fired upon, then returns to ours. It seems they can only do this once before their energy is expended. Seemingly useless at first, until you realize that you will stop shooting it to pick another target, meaning it could be clawing at your throat by the time you realize how close it's gotten. It is beleived that the Infection imbued this zulu with limited psychic capabilities.

Tartarus: This zulu seems to resemble a bear that constantly walks upright. Their fur has been matted and ragged due to the hordes of undead that have ripped at this once powerful beast, turning it into a stronger, faster, and deadlier creature. Tartarus uses it's two hands to basically club it's prey to death. Usually resulting in severe trauma to the skull, and death if not treated. It is advised to maintain your distance from this undead due to the fact that it can deliver an incredible beating in a short period of time. The M320 grenade launcher and support fire and kill this zulu with little trouble, but let it get close, and you'll be in a world of hurt.

Part Two

Blood Hound: The tattered remains of a once former medium size animal (usually a canine) is the only sembelance that this creature was at one time something normal. These beasts have managed to retain their base hunting instincts, giving reason as to why they seem to be found in pairs and packs. The horn like protrusions from their head are actually the once delicate ears that have been elongated into a solid bone mass ending with a sharp point. Letting these being's get close to you will usually mean a painful death by mauling or by being skewered. Luckily, this zulu can be taken down easily with a few well aimed bullets. Or with a m320 grenade launcher if found in packs.

Devourer: Similar to the Blood Hound, just deadlier. Even though it's flesh has rotted away, leaving it's muscles behind, this zulu is exxtremely fast considering it is deceased. This undead unit can easily take down a lone man, and even 2-5 if it's attacking marines that are unexperienced. Due to the high amount of resistance this zulu has, it's best to either concentrate your fire, or use explosives to take it down. Shotguns are only advised if this type of canine is in a line, due to the fact that even they cannot fell this large canine type undead in one shot.

Stalker: This unit has the same aspects as the blood hound in every way. The only difference we have found, is that this zulu seems a bit faster then the blood hound and devouerer, enabling it to catch a running man and run him through before he can make it to safety. The benelli combat shotgun is advised to take down this undead.

Slasher: An incredibly deadly canine based Zulu. This undead shredder has been known to literally rip apart civilians and Marines, leaving them in unidentifiable pieces. The Infection has caused this once former animal to grow a iron like carapace around it's entire body. It has also caused it to grow bone protrusions at the top of the skull, which the Slasher puts to deadly use. Most attacks against this unit do little damage against it because of it's hardened skin. The best way to deal with this beast is to use machine gun fire and explosives to tear through it's tough hide and rip apart vital organs.

Part Three

Parasite Spore: Basically, just a quivering viral mass melded together to form a single mind. Their only thought process is to breed, and what do they breed? Worm like creatures.

Cocoon: This is the eggsac for a dangerous hostile called Minos. The cocoon has a tough outer carapace, yet no attack. Given enough time, the cocoon will mature, and Minos will have been created. It is advised that you hunt down and destroy these as quick as possible.

Parasite: The worm like offspring of the spores. They don't do much damage, but instead deliver a deadly and incredibly painful toxin into the victims bloodstream. Their small size makes them difficult to shoot, but they can't take many hits. 1-3 shots can take down this zulu with little difficulty.

Unknown Parasite: Precious little is known about this mutation of a regular parasite. Hence the name. This parasite has a high amount of resistance to damage. Coupled with it's high evasion, it can be devestating to fire teams and squads. Due to the fact that it looks exactly like a regular parasite, it's hard to identify what it really is until you've lost some good men. It's best to use a combination of shotgun fire and desert eagle shots to take down this ragged worm.

Crepitus: This is the cousin of the regular parasite. Crepitus seems to have a higher ability to dodge bullets then the normal parasite, and has a slightly faster attack. It's fangs are dripping with a highly poisonous venom that is lethal to humans. Luckily for us, it can be taken down with a few direct hits. We have also discovered that this being sometimes splits itself upon death. Caution is advised when approaching with close range weapons.

Cloud: While not related to the parasites in anyway, Cloud has the highest amount of evasion we have ever come across. Due to it's insubstantial form, most of our bullets pass right through it. It seems to have a brain like formation wrapped in a leather jerkin type carapace in the center of it. Due to the fact that visiblity is pour within Cloud, it is hard to hit the brain. When Cloud gets close to your forces, he uses a light attack to damage your team. While not very strong, it will deliver a parasite into the attacked team member. Turning him into a host. If not treated, an unknown parasite will spawn from his corpse, usually to the downfall of your team. The Cloud's high evasion has forced our teams to disperse most of the time, allowing other undead to tear them to shreds. Explosives such as the M320 and artillery are advised to deal with cloud, as are the combat shotguns.

Part Four

Blink: The once proud and majestic birds have been mutated by the Infection into vicious killing machines. If not dealt with properly, they will tear apart a whole platoon before they even fire a shot. Individually, their taken down easily. It's only when they swarm do they become a problem. These zulus' usually aim for the eye's and neck of their prey, either blinding them or opening the main artery on the targets neck, resulting in profuse bleeding, and if not treated, death. The decayed remains barely even look that of a bird. It was only when a live one was found being feasted on by others was a connection made.

Shredder: The anti-air flier for the undead. The shredder has developed incredibly long claws capable of ripping apart the wings of our fliers. Most noticeably that of the UAV. Our choppers have also fallen victim to these beasts, due to their high amount of speed. When confronted with these undead, their not much of a threat, unless your in the air.... A couple of well placed shots to vital points on this undead can bring it down easily enough though.

Gargoyle: This undead flier is believed to have once been a type of large bird, mutated into an even larger creature then before. It's claws have grown longer, bursting through their flesh and extending up to 5 inches long. They are sharp as an old Samurai sword, and can cut through bone and flesh easily. One of the most dangerous undead to deal with, the gargoyle has a high movespeed, decent damage, and a fast attack rate. If you don't deal with these unholy things quickly, your only other option is to pray...

Leviathan: Strangely enough, this looks like a dragon from the Middle Age lore. Scientists argue that it's wings aren't large enough to support this mystical yet deadly fiend. They have decided that the Infection has mutated certain gargoyles, transforming them into this undead. It's wings are comprised of many holes and have 2 claws on the end. They breathe a corrosive acid onto the target unit, eating away at it's A.L.I.C.E. until it gets to the flesh within. The best way to deal with this being is focused fire until it is finally laid to rest.

Wraith: This unit uses a chamelon affect like that of the Moirae entity. This fast flier has been reported on several occasions throughout our forces. It's inability to be seen by the naked eye makes it a dangerous foe. This zulu tends to sneak up on you while your attention is focused somewhere else. Usually leading to it breathing down your neck before you can snap a shot off. It's body is relatively fragile, so a couple of shotgun pumps along with some support fire can bring this zulu down.

Part Five

Flesh Composite: This abomination of God consists of a score of zombies that have been bonded together from the Infection into a singular mass, with only one thought in mind. Kill any living thing it sees. Due to the large amount of decayed corpses attached together, it is able to live up until the last of it's cerebrums have been destroyed.

Etaphravren: While Thanatos may have strength and speed, Etaphravren has the element of surprise. While he is weaker then Thanatos, Etaphravren is only distinguished by his size. He is only a little larger then the devourer, enabling him to effectively blend in with other devourers, letting him get up close and personal with his prey. He has the same type of carapace as Thanatos, meaning he can take large amounts of punishment. It is best advised to use chain explosives and an M320 grenade launcher to blow them to kill this powerful zulu.

Hades: There are believed to be only two of these in exsistence, reports indicate that they dwell underground, which means there could be more then we think. This undead unit likes to drag an unsuspecting unit away from the rest of it's team, and club it to death using it's huge arms. For some reason, it usually does not kill the unit, but leaves it wounded and standed. Wether this means it has some former human emotion, and cannot bring itself to finish off what it once was, or it revels in letting it die from loss of blood or other zulu's has not yet been determined. Keep a lookout for this zulu, it his highly dangerous and relatively tough. Explosives are not advised since He (we think) grabs units at random. Which could mean an untimely death for someone in your squad. Shotguns and heavy fire are advised to put it down for good.

Loki: This seems to be a "tribal leader" of gargoyles. They usually sit around one area directing their subjects, rarely showing itself unless his minons are being decimated. The leathery wings of this creature give it a distinct sound, as does it's shriek. Which it admits when enraged. This zulu will make wide swipes with it's claws, usually instantly killing the main target and anyone foolish enough to stand near it. With focused fire this ghoulish undead can be brought down quickly, but if not taken care of, will kill you faster then you can say a final "Hail Mary". A few m320 shots coupled with some shotgun along with supporting fire are usually enough to take down this beast.

Osiris: Loki is supposedly the tribal leader for the gargoyles, the same can be said for Osiris. He is beleived to be the leader of the leviathans, which serve him without question. Several of these have been encountered around other packs of leviathans. This type of horrid leviathan also breathes a type of much stronger acid onto it's target. Unlike it's underling's, Osiris is tougher and smarter. It's best to use explosives and heavy surpressive fire to knock this beast out of the sky before it can use it's destructive abilitys to make short work of you.

Atlas: This is the undead version of a "walking tank." This zulu can withstand incredible amounts of punishment. It's bullet ridden carapace is so thick, that it has no weak points, enabling critical shots useless. This beast of the undead is best taken down by using massive amounts of explosives or combined fire from the whole team. If not dealt with asap, Atlas will make short work of your squad.

Moirae: One of the deadliest undead we have encountered. It has a high amount of resistance to explosives and bullets. By using a chamelon like affect, this zulu can blend in with it's surroundings. Therefore, it can not be seen with the naked eye. Using a tactical field light can disrupt the field of invisibility it has, enabling you to fire upon it. The moirae has only two weaknesses. Our highly classified Atrien 12 which must be delivered via human host, or the transceiver. Even a ShivaTacNuke isn't guaranteed to take this monster down.

Lyganesh: As the chordata is the little brother to the flesh composite, lyganesh is the "big brother" of it. This is one of the largest undead we have encountered, rival only to Prometheus itself. It's entrails are usually hanging through a gaping hole in their abdomen caused by the strecthing of the skin and muscle. Heavy amounts of fire with extreme amounts of explosives can usually deal with this beast, but not usually before he can take down a couple members of your team. We have found that using airstrikes against Lyganesh have had the best results. If nothing else, use chain explosives to blow this undead back to hell.

Prometheus: Virtually nothing is known about this highly dangerous zulu. Everything we've thrown against it has barely seemed to scratch it. The most effective way we've developed so far is by using a type of EMP pulse that has been altered to affect the central nervous system of the undead. The EM sphere was field tested with moderate results. While it did not kill prometheus, it serverly weakened it. Enabling our birds and heavy fire to bring it down. This zulu is easily recognizeable by the huge rock like formation on it's back. We have no idea what this is for, but it may be an eggsac for other undead. Prometheus tends to attack in a wide arc, dealing damage to anyone standing close to it's initial target.

Diablo: Diablo is an elusive creature. He seems to appear at the most unexpected time. Diablo is a larger and stronger version of Hades. He operates the exact same way as hades does, dragging a victim to a random location then hitting it a few times and running away, allowing the other undead to finish it's target off. Explosives are not advised as they can kill another member of your squad once he's done beeing dragged. Heavy amounts of fire along with combat shotguns usually have the best effect against Diablo, but expect to lose a few of your team in the process of bringing down this mighty undead.

Eris: This Zulu seems to also have limited psychic capabilities. When near your forces, She will emit a type of psychic ability that turns your vision red, and makes your heartrate increase. This in turn impairs your ability to focus on any one target. Due to the fact that vision is impaired, friendly fire has been reported by our teams. Luckily enough though, even though Eris seems tough at first, She can actually be put down quite easily. Either heavy concentrated fire, or chain explosives are advised to kill her for good.

Thanatos: Rival only to that of Etaphravren. Thanatos is a quick and agile zulu. This undead has been known to rip apart entire companys of men before he can be put down. His carapace is harder then steel alloy, making him impervious to most attacks. Explosives do not work well with Thanatos because of the fact that he is so fast. Even heavy fire does not guarantee the death of Thanatos due to the amount of punishment he can take. Even our bradley tanks have trouble dealing with Him. Our researchers have concluded that the only way to put down Thanatos is to use heavy heavy surpressive fire from every member of your squad, if a bradley tank is nearby, all the better. If that fails to work, combat shotguns can be used if he manages to get that close to you. Chances are if he does though, you wont live to tell about it.

Minos: A slower, yet stronger version Etaphravren. Minos has a rock hard shell that protects his vital point. While Minos may look like an overly large bug, he can not be stomped out of exsistence as easily as a regular one. His tough carapace gives him increased resistance to our attacks. Chain explosives and the M320 grenade launcher have had the best results against Minos. Just make sure you put a decent number of chain explosives down, or he'll just smile at you and keep on coming. If he gets close, shotguns can also be used, but to little effect if he hasn't taken much damage from our other weapons.

This was something I thought of in my spare time. If you guys would like to see more descriptions of the NOTD Aftermath units, please let me know. I will accept compliments and all forms of constructive criticism.
