United States Marine Corps Priority File 09653U-93 Encryption Code: Red Classified: RESTRICTED ACCESS - Level A From: 1Lt. Dr. John Stenvik Subject: Infection causes and recommend course of action to continue containment. /start file/ Research File: Infection Reporting on the status of containment and the cause of the Infection. It seems that the term "zombies" is a misnomer. After 5600 hours of thorough examining of the captured specimens, largely from Operation Silent Hill (see OpReport: Echo and OSH files). I have discovered that all of the infected bodies have one thing in common. It seems that the meteor shower of 2035 is one possible source of the infection, however, the true origin remains unknown. We have confirmed the the meteors were carrying an unknown alien species, but it does not match that which we have found in the hosts, and all found in the meteor were dead. We are still attempting to determine the exact origin of the infection. The parasite, which we call a Necrotroph, which can dig into a host, and take control of the host's nervous system. The host is never dead, and therefore, these "zombies" are actually unfortunate hosts. The Necrotroph is weak at the start, killable with simple Anti-Venom medication, or TX-1, a largely Anti-Parasitic compound. Once the Necrotroph dig into the hosts spinal cord, it takes a long, slender tube at injects a high-protein DNA substance into the host's spinal cord, infecting him with its DNA, causing it to evolve rapidly, and conduct metabolic reactions at a much higher rate. The average lifetime of an infected host is approximately 19-25 days. Early stage hosts can take about the same amount of damage as the original host, but in later stages, (see Late Stage Evolution), grow massive in both size, and the amount of firepower required to bring one down. Certain forms (see Prometheus) have shown the ability to survive Tactical Nuclear weapons. Current containment level is at 93.1%. Recommended course of action is daily anti-venom/parasite treatment. Symptoms of infection include (but are not limited to): - Headache - Frequent Nose bleeds - Diarrhea - Vomiting - Internal Bleeding Any sign of these symptoms should be reported immediately. Failure can result in demotion. /end file/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- United States Marine Corps Priority File 09953A-94 Encryption Code: Red Classified: RESTRICTED ACCESS - Level A From: 1Lt. Dr. John Stenvik Subject: Rapid Evolution, and subspecies creation. /start file/ Research File: Evolution Reporting on the Rapid evolution and metabolism of Parasitic subspecies. We have discovered the source of the parasite's rapid evolution process. It appears that the parasite contains a gene, labeled PX-10023, which produces a chemical, C6H8O6N4, an amino acid which boosts metabolism greatly in the host body. To my dismay, the chemical fails to break down, causing increasing lactic acid build up, and great amounts of pain, which explains the greater aggression in the higher orders of parasite. Eventually, the pain is so severe that the host body shuts itself down, killing the parasite. Test Subject 13-A was injected with a neuro-virus, which killed this gene, and stopped the body from evolving. As a side result, the creatures aggression has become non-existant. 13-A has shown near human intellect, and was able to fool the camera, and escape. Current whereabouts are suspected near Ravenholm. We may be able to harness this parasite to evolve our soldiers to a point of superhuman strength, then remove the "evolution gene" to prevent aggression and to keep them at a more human-looking state. Experiment are underway to test this theory. If they prove successful, we could have a scientific breakthrough in modern warfare, and pave the way for new "super-soldiers". /end file/ |
