Starlite has officially confirmed that we will produce a new NOTD Aftermath based map in StarCraft 2. We will create a new forum for pre-development in October 2007. Due to StarCraft 2's game platform and settings, it would be most efficient to have NOTD Aftermath's timeline set in the distant future to minimize the use of unnecessary custom models. It would likely be set in the year 2142. A blend of Terran and Protoss units will likely be adapted for NOTD Aftermath's use on the player's side. A lot of the story settings and game environment is contingent to StarCraft 2's actual units and environmental terrains. The name of the map will be a key issue we hope to conclude when we set up the pre-development forum in October 2007. At present, it is likely that the StarCraft 2 map will be named NOTD Aftermath, without any changes. Map development and testing will likely begin within the first week of StarCraft 2's release. I'll be taking an extended break or alternative work assignment for three weeks in order to build the base of the new map and get the map published swiftly for external testing. StarCraft 2 will bring along a large number of exciting opportunities and possibilities with a much improved engine and game editor. While it will certainly require a lot of experimentation and effort to utilize the StarCraft 2 World Editor's full potential, we believe that we will be able to innovate on novel gameplay mechanics in similiar fashion to the original NOTD Aftermath. As we did in Warcraft III, we aim to contribute to the map development community of Starcraft 2 with our open source development and unique approaches in game design. NOTD Aftermath is a spotlight map in Warcraft III and there will be high expectations to deliver a quality StarCraft 2 mod. Keep yourself up to date over the coming months on our forums as pre-development work steps up. Join the discussion Sincerely, Azazel Starcraft 2 Screenshots ![]() ![]() ![]() |
