Alright, peer pressure may not be a world issue, it may not be on the news everyday.. or isn't it? All those stupid car crashes that we see, all those bloody abortions. There's a pretty big chance, without even turning to Google, that they were caused by peer pressure.

I'm posting this mainly because I have a strange interest in how peer pressure works. Mainly though, it's not the direct kind of peer pressure. Not that kind of 'Hey, have some dope. It's good for ya.' peer pressure. My interest is in the more subtle brother of.. yeh, peer pressure. The way people have their own groups at school, work, the moon, whatever. And one that's mainly seen in schools, how students rank each other, depending on how they look, how tough they look, how much gel they chuck in their hair. I don't like it.

And yes, I know there are benefits to this mostly adolescent thing that grows in your brain, controlling your actions and obscuring logic. Personally, I would never know half the things I do if there was no such thing as the subconcious controller in your head.(Running out of names for peer pressure.)

Ok, this may not be peer pressure, I don't know. But besides mistakes in grammar and punctuation, why do we backspace our words? Because it doesn't look right? I confess to myself right now, I backspace because i'm ashamed, afraid of what will be thought of my thread when I submit it. But i'll worry about that when.. I want to, not when the invisible tentacle inside my head grabs my brain, distorts it and deletes these paragraphs because I feel stupid.

Social norms?

I guess it's because people think that there is something wrong with you if you don't fit in. I mean there's obviously varying degrees of this. If some guy running around with streamers yelling "I'M A PRETTY BUTTERFLY!", people will probably think he's a bit messed up in the head. Someone who wears silly hats will probably make people think he just wants attention. Not really sure what kinda reply you're looking for though.

Meow?

That is a good point.. Never really thought about it as they'd think there was something wrong with you. Although I have experienced it first-hand.

well you may call that peer pressure
but think about it? its not like we have to care about what others think we always keep our own thoughts of ourselves
people say speeding is a peer pressure. but when i speeds its really just coz its the first thing that comes to my head when i want to get to places? get me? its not liek some other person said, oh speed because we want you to. but more like a decisions. and i think that you cant' call peer pressure.

i believe you define peer pressure for those who actually aren't as confident within themselves and friends who are just out there to impress others. or maybe thats just me being cynical here

Mm, we do keep most of our thoughts to ourselves. But no matter how hard we try, no matter how much control you assume you have, the first thing that comes to our heads when we're 'socialising' is how are we going to attract the most attention, how to get the most laughs out of your peer's mouths. Sure, it may not sound like peer pressure, but think about it. You're around a bunch of friends, they don't even have to say anything, you'll subconciously want them to acknowledge your presence. Is this not pressure? Some people may want it, they may love being the centre of attention, but it still is a form of pressure.

And I know many people that're high on self-esteem that still succumb to the urge to impress. Even I, while i'm thinking about these kind of things around my friends, have trouble keeping in comments that would I never have even thought of around them.

Hello, I'm not really a social person yet I can manage talking to a large number of people... but in terms of talking one-on-one personally or two, I don't really know how to properly deal with them
